In today’s technology-focused world, the use of computers has become an almost essential life skill - be that for work, or recreation. In Computer Science, students are given the opportunity to become responsible, confident users of technology, whilst also developing a firm understanding of how computers operate.
All lessons take place in one of the school’s computer suites. The computers run windows 10 with a range of software, including programming IDEs and Microsoft Office. The department is always looking at new technological advances and bringing in these where they improve the learning experience.
Beyond The Curriculum
The department offers a variety of extra-curricular activities to students. Activities out of lesson time vary depending upon student interest and current trends. Programming clubs are frequently offered (such as Scratch or Kodu), alongside the opportunity to work with hardware such as BBC Micro:Bits. Where possible, the department also looks to offer curriculum-related trips.
