Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to read the information about our Sixth Form on our website. We are very proud to be able to offer an extensive range of Level 3 courses alongside our Extended Learning programmes. With such a wide range of A Level and BTEC extended certificate courses available, you will be able to select the combination that best suits your interests, abilities and career aspirations. Moreover, you will be able to study in an environment that is extremely well resourced and skilled at preparing you for the next stage of your journey - whether that proves to be studying at university or securing employment.

Barton Court has a tradition of offering an outstanding curriculum, excellent teaching and learning and top results at Advanced Level. You will be joining one of the best Sixth Forms in the country. The school is frequently ranked as one of the highest performing schools in the Canterbury district and the UK as a whole with an exceptional track record of examination success at Post-16 level. In February 2020 Barton Court was praised by Ofsted for improving the range of courses available to students in the Sixth Form. Importantly, Ofsted recognised that ‘teaching in the Sixth Form is very strong which has led to improved results and high attainment.’

From 2018 onwards we have been pleased to offer new BTEC Extended Certificate courses, responding to feedback from employers that courses such as Business, Sport, and Health and Social Care are best studied with a more vocational route, rather than an academic examination focused approach. We are the only Canterbury grammar school offering this vocational option, alongside academic excellence in A Level provision.

At Barton Court Grammar School we encourage all our students to be independent learners, to contribute to the life of the School and its wider community. We are also committed to nurturing global citizenship, emphasising an education without borders.

We are committed to the “Thinking Schools” approach and we have put thinking at the heart of our learning and teaching because we believe confident, thoughtful, life-long learners will not only be successful in their studies at Barton Court but will have the key skills required to be successful in the world of work and in life.

We believe yours is an exciting future: together we can work towards achieving your goals.

Mr J Hopkins BA Hons, NPQH
