Inspiring Young Linguists Through Our Enriching Year 5 Workshops
Posted on: 16/10/2026Each year, Barton Court Grammar School welcomes local Year 5 pupils to take part in our popular Enriching Workshops, designed to challenge and inspire young learners while giving them a glimpse into life at a grammar school. These exciting sessions provide students with the opportunity to explore a range of subjects beyond the primary curriculum and develop new skills in a stimulating environment.
Our first workshop of the academic year focused on Modern Foreign Languages. Throughout the session, pupils learned how to describe films and television programmes in French using sentence builders, helping them to build confidence in communicating in another language.
Students also discovered the fascinating Festival of Lights in Lyon, exploring the cultural traditions behind this famous celebration before unleashing their creativity to design their own inspired artwork.
The workshop was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent engagement from everyone involved. It provided students with a valuable insight into the breadth of language learning, demonstrating that studying a language is about much more than vocabulary and grammar; it is also a gateway to culture, history, art, film and television.
We were delighted to see so much excitement and talent on display and look forward to welcoming students back for future Enriching Workshops throughout the year.
