We work in close collaboration with our local primary schools to make the transition to secondary a positive experience.
Transition starts with Primary School visits by the Year 7 Team and Senior Staff during Term 6. Members of staff speak with teachers and students during these visits to ensure a smooth handover of all information. The aim is to ensure that students feel welcome and supported with an opportunity to have any questions answered.
Barton Court Grammar School will host a Welcome Evening on Tuesday 6 June 2017 for the September intake where parents will attend a presentation with the Executive Head Teacher and Deputy Head Teacher about the school, such as the curriculum, pastoral care and the induction programme. There will also be a presentation for parents from our uniform stockist, Simmonds and our catering supplier – Independent Catering. Stage Coach will also be present to discuss and answer any questions regarding travel to and from School. The Head of Year along with Tutors will greet students and speak with students separately on this occasion. This is a very positive evening and a great opportunity for students, parents and staff to meet before the September start date.
This year we are holding Year 6 Interviews for the 2017 new intake on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 21 June from 4:00-7:00pm. This is the evening in which our new intake for the next academic year will come into school with their parents and will go through the induction paperwork with a member of staff. Also on the evening our uniform stockists will have a “pop up shop” set up in the school hall selling the required Barton Court Grammar School uniform, our catering staff will be registering students for biometric payment system in the canteen and there will be the opportunity to buy at a discounted price stationary such as Art packs and Mathematics equipment.
On Thursday 6 July, there will be a transition day for year 6 students to come and see what life at secondary school is like before they start with us. This day is organised by our Director of Key Stage 3 (Ms Fenn) and comprises of taster sessions for a range of subjects. The transition day gives new starters the chance to meet their form teachers, peers, have a tour of the school and take a look at all of the fantastic facilities that are available.
Our open evenings and school tours give students a taste of life at our friendly secondary school and we look forward to welcoming our new starters and their families to our caring and supportive school community, as they start what we hope will be an exciting and rewarding secondary school life.
There will be Open Evenings for current Year 5 students on Thursday 5 October 2017 and Tuesday 17 October between 6 – 8pm.
