New Build - 1 July 2016
The proposal is to build a new block on the School field, adjacent to the Sports Hall and move the tennis courts to the top field. This proposal consists of a new main entrance to the School, car parking for staff and visitors, bus drop-off and pick-up points, school hall, kitchen and dining facilities, washrooms, 3 Science Labs and 7 classrooms.
We have yet to secure funding for the new Hall, which will now be called phase 2. We have also not secured funding for phase 3: the new reception area, new car park and the movement of the tennis courts to the top field.
Phase 1 will be built with immediate effect and it is anticipated that the build works will commence in early September 2016 with a completion date of October 2017.
The contractor, Jenner, will be on site from the school summer holidays and their first task is to widen the road at the junction with Spring Lane to enable the large vehicles access during the build process. This work is also a condition of planning. In addition they will be preparing the site ready for the students return in September.
This is a fantastic development for the School providing much needed extra space and facilities for current students and future generations who will join our School community. The new classrooms will form a new mathematics suite and the new Science labs will add to the current stock of 7 labs making Mathematics and Science a centre of excellence at the School.
The current Hall will continue to be used for assemblies and music/drama lessons and the new kitchen and canteen facilities will free up the current Hall and the PA studio to be used solely as music/drama teaching spaces providing these subjects with much needed additional space and resources. The current reception area will also remain in situ.
There will be no change to the admissions policy but from September 2017 the School’s Published Admissions Number (PAN) will increase from 128 to 150 starting in Year 7 and rising.
