The MYP at Barton Court

What is the MYP?

The MYP or Middle Years Programme is a course for students aged 11-16, administered by the International Baccalaureate Organization, which provides a method of delivering both National Curriculum and GCSE lessons following the IB ethos. Barton Court is a Candidate School for the MYP, having passed the first stage of application. In the next two years the School intends passing the final stage and becoming an IB World School for MYP.

Why are we following the MYP Course at Barton Court?

Our students already follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. The first cohort have completed the Diploma and gained high results, allowing access to their chosen University courses. In addition, the School felt that the experience of studying for the qualification provided students with a greater holistic education than before. We feel that the MYP will now provide an enhanced curriculum for our students in years 7-11. The main benefits are:

  • The development of independent, principled learners, demonstrating attributes of the IB learner profile.
  • A broader, more holistic curriculum.
  • More opportunity to transfer skills and knowledge across subjects.
  • The development of global citizens.
  • Preparation of students to follow the IB Diploma.
