Our Library

Librarian: Mrs V Milot

Library

The Library is a spacious, contemporary, light and airy facility in the heart of the School. The resources and study space are complimented with a bank of 30 computers on the mezzanine. The panoramic views of the mansion house over the lake towards the Cathedral and beyond contribute to making the library an inviting, pleasant environment and an ideal atmosphere for study and as a social space. The library is open every day from 8.15am - 4.00pm and is staffed by a qualified librarian.

The library's book collection of around 12,000 volumes includes fiction for all ages, foreign language books, and reference works. Other resources include local and national newspapers, a wide range of journals and magazines, a careers library and DVDs. Printing and photocopying facilities are also available.

The library resources aim to reflect and support the teaching and learning at Barton Court, to meet and support the curriculum/information needs and leisure reading interests of students and staff.

The library is a busy, lively place. All students and staff are members of the library, and are encouraged to make use of it. It hosts other events such as a Primary Languages Resources Fest and will act as a venue for visiting speakers.

Whole classes can visit the library for reading-related activities/research or to use the computers and Sixth formers use the library during their study periods. The library catalogue is available online and can be accessed from any computer in the school. Out of lesson time the library can be accessed by students before school, at break and at lunch as well as at the end of the day.

The Library Book Club meets every Wednesday after school to celebrate books and reading. The Book Club shadows the CILIP Carnegie Children's Book Award and all book club members are currently busy reading, discussing the books on the shortlist and posting reviews on their website. Reviews can be found on www.ckg.org.uk. There is a Homework Club after school on Monday to Thursday.
